House in Komazawa

detail
The site is a former daycare center that I attended for five full years 58 years ago.
It is a memorable piece of land that I have been fortunate enough to attend to this day. Over time, the surrounding houses have been subdivided into lots and replaced with smaller houses, but this is the only one that remains undivided, retaining the appearance of its time. The relatively large building is composed of a “collection of fragments” of various roof shapes from the surrounding smaller, reconstructed buildings, presenting a wide façade that blends in with its surroundings on a site with a wide frontage. The interior is designed to have as large a courtyard as possible, allowing visitors to walk around the perimeter, which may have been influenced by memories of a former nursery school (the image of various places such as hills, trees, tree tunnels, and slopes).
